The Deal That Wasn’t

from the Toronto Sun,

Imagine a Maple Leafs team that featured a one-two punch of Mats Sundin and Vincent Lecavalier up the middle.
It almost happened.
Unfortunately, Leafs fans must deal with the bitterness of what might have been, especially with Lecavalier now enjoying an MVP-type season at just 26….
Bill Watters, the Leafs assistant general manager at the time of the proposed Lecavalier swap, recalled how close the trade came to fruition.
“Our scouting staff, Pat Quinn, everybody was so excited at the time because the deal was pretty much done and the media didn’t have a sniff of it,” Watters said.

Peca Looking At Mid-April Return

from the Toronto Sun,

The 32-year-old worked out for 25 minutes yesterday at the Air Canada Centre in a track suit, but was able to put weight on the leg and shoot the puck.
“I had to fight the doctor to skate,” Peca said with a laugh. “I was able to go straight away as fast and as hard as I want, turn over both ways and do figure eights, so I was pretty happy.”
His recent x-rays have been encouraging.
“The bone has healed and you can barely see any trace of the fracture,” he said. “The MCL has just about healed perfectly I was able to do a lot of things today that I didn’t think I’d be able to do….”

Head Coach Paul Maurice says Kaberle felt good afterwards and if he experiences no headaches or other setback, could return to the ice for practice in a week’s time.

Report- Kaberle Done For The Season

from the National Post,

Welcome to life without Tomas Kaberle. Kubina, and others, might have to get used to it.
Kaberle, who is by far Toronto’s best defenceman, is still suffering from the effects of a concussion suffered Friday night after a cheap-shot hit from New Jersey goon Cam Janssen. The club set a target goal of a week to 10 days for his return—a timeframe that Kaberle’s agent, Rick Curran, immediately downplayed. But sources familiar with the situation have told the Post that Kaberle will not, in fact, return this season.
“He’s done,” one source told the Post.

Tomas Kaberle Leaves Ice On Stretcher

from The Sports Network via TSN,

Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Tomas Kaberle was taken off the ice on a stretcher after being blind-sided by a late hit by New Jersey Devils tough guy Cam Janssen in the second period Friday night.
Kaberle was hit in the head by Janssen about two or three seconds after he made a pass in his own end of the ice. The Toronto player then fell to the ice and hit his head against the side boards at the Continental Airlines Arena.
