Wolski to Be a healthy Scratch Tonight Against the Islanders

According to New York Rangers’ beat writer Jesse Spector, Blueshirts’ forward Wojtek Wolski will be a healthy scratch tonight when the team takes on the New York Islanders at Madison Square Garden.

Wojtek Wolski was one of the Rangers’ heroes on Saturday night in San Jose, scoring the shootout goal that extended the tiebreaker for Brandon Dubinsky to win it in the sixth round. Tonight, he will be a healthy scratch for the first time since the January trade that brought him to New York in exchange for Michal Rozsival.

That might seem incongruous, but not to Wolski, who was disappointed when John Tortorella informed him that he would be sitting out tonight’s game against the Islanders, but understood the reason for the move.

“I don’t think that’s a good enough reason to keep me in the lineup,” Wolski said. “I’ve got to obviously play better. He’s holding me accountable, and the only one I can blame is myself. I’ve got to have more confidence out there with the puck and just play a bigger role, and have a bigger impact on the games.”

Wolski has not exactly been terrible for the Blueshirts. He has four assists in his last eight games and is the team’s forward leader in +/- with a + 12.
