Drury Breaks Out

This may be his second season as a New York Ranger but in last night’s 5-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning, Chris Drury finally broke out.
He helped the team’s power play break out of its funk with two goals with the man advantage. Drury also scored the team’s first shorthanded goal of the season.
All in all, not too shabby for the Trumbull, CT native.
“This one felt really good, especially after losing two,” Drury told the team’s web site after his big night.
The club’s power play, still near the bottom of the league, looked different last night as it scored off the rush and threw pucks at Lightning netminder Mike Smith. Whether they continue to employ the same strategy they did last night throughout the rest of the season, is another question.
“I liked that we scored on the power play, and scored off the rush,” Rangers’ head coach Tom Renney told the team’s web site. “And we battled. We showed some character, which is important, too.”
The win puts the team at 11-4-1 for the season, good for second in the league behind the San Jose Sharks. Picking up all these points now is certainly going to help once the team evens out, goes through a slump or has to deal with a difficult part of the schedule.
Tomorrow night, the Blueshirts take on the 6-4-2 Washington Capitals. It’s a game that ultimately, the team should win but with the way the Rangers are, you just never know.
The one question I have is who do you start in goal tomorrow night, Henrik Lundqvist or Steve Valiquette? With four tough games coming up next week (Edmonton Oilers, New Jersey Devils, Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators), Renney may have to go to Valley.
A win tomorrow night would certainly get the team off on the right foot before dealing with one of the first parts of their difficult schedule. We’ll see what happens!
