Pick Six: Thursday February 9

I’ll kick off the Pick Six for Thursday with a list of confirmed starting goalies, courtesy of Goalie Post: Scott Clemmensen, FLA; Cory Schneider, VAN; Leland Irving, CGY; Johan Hedberg, NJ. The other goalies listed have not been confirmed, but they might be wise starts given recent play and matchups.
Evgeni Nabokov, G, NYI – start
Avoiding Islanders goalies may now officially be a thing of the past. Nabby has won six of his last seven starts, including a 1-0 shootout shutout against the Flyers on Tuesday. The punchless Canadiens could provide an even easier test on Thursday. Keep in mind that his value for the remainder of the season is very difficult to project. The Islanders may decide to trade him to a contender, who may employ him as a backup.

Thursday’s Mike Cammalleri/Rene Bourque trade is an interesting deal on many different levels, including from a numbers perspective. Calgary seemed to be the consensus winner of the deal, since the Flames will receive the player who is viewed as more talented. Or is he?

Pick Six: Saturday October 15

Even though Sidney Crosby is not one of my Pick Six players for Saturday, the big news of the week has to be his official clearance for contact by the Penguins. If you asked me when he will return, I would have to place the over/under at three weeks. I think he’ll be back in two weeks, but why rush him now when a return is now officially not far off?
Even though Crosby is not on any of my fantasy teams this year, I will be ecstatic to see him return. Most hockey fans will no doubt feel the same way (except for maybe Philadelphia fans, but apparently they don’t like Santa Claus either). Let’s cross our fingers … but until that day comes, let’s concentrate on what’s on the schedule for Saturday, a day in which all but two teams are in action.

Pick Six: Saturday October 8

Saturday has been hockey night for all of us as long as we can remember. So it seems fitting that this Saturday represents the first busy day of the season. Busier days mean that roster decisions become that more important – something you’ll attest to if you’ve ever seen a player rack up a huge statline while sitting on your bench. My job will be to try to help you avoid that embarrassment and to exploit the possible matchups that may be out there.
Cue the Hockey Night in Canada theme… here’s the Pick Six for Saturday. There’s lots to choose from, but these six players from my various fantasy hockey rosters seemed to catch my attention.

First Draft of the Year

My first single-season league draft of the season came and went on Sunday, and I wasn’t a participant. (Okay, my alibi was that I promised to go to Costco and also take my two-year-old son out on his tricycle during the time of my draft – pretty lame, I know.) In spite of my domestic responsibilities, I do plan on attending at least one live draft this season, which will likely be the fantasyhockey.com/Kukla’s Korner League, where I am the commissioner.
