Devils want to win for DeBoer

“Pete has done an outstanding job,” Devils GM Lou Lamoriello said to Dave Hutchinson of The Star Ledger. “He knows what he wants. He’s comfortable and confident in his own skin and is open to suggestions. It’s his honesty and forthrightness that I like. He’s very communicative with his players.”

“All the guys want to play for Pete,” Parise said. “The mode and atmosphere around the locker room is great. He has done an awesome job.”

“You have to get guys to buy into your system and I think Pete has done that with his demeanor,” veteran goalie Martin Brodeur said. “He does a good job getting everybody involved, it’s not just a one-man show. Also, he understands the ups and downs of a season and is good about taking care of guys by giving them days off.”

Zajac Skates:

Devils center Travis Zajac who is recovering from a sore Achilles tendon, had a light skate the other day according to Lou Lamoriello. There is still no clear timetable for the return of Zajac. He is still waiting to hear back from a few more doctors regarding his soreness.

Larsson Set to Return:

After taking a big hit from PK Subban of the Montreal Canadiens, Adam Larsson was forced to miss the past nine games after becoming injured.

“I saw him coming,’’ Larsson said. “I knew he could hit but not like that. The hit was clean. It was how I landed.’‘

“It was great (today),’’ Larsson said. “I’m ready to go. It was just my lower back. It was frustrating. I couldn’t move. I was at home. It was boring. ... I have no idea (if he’ll back on Friday vs. Vancouver). It’s up to the coaches. If I could play it would be great. I want to get back to game shape.’‘

Doc Emrick Night:

The New Jersey Devils are once again going to honor their longtime color commentator Michael “Doc” Emrick prior to the start of the game against the Canucks tonight.

“Doc is among the rare few broadcasters who elevates the game and the moment simply by his presence, and we were proud to have him on our air,” said Dan Ronayne, executive vice president and general manager of MSG Networks to Devils.nhl.com. “This is a great honor for Doc and we’re excited to bring Friday’s festivities to Devils fans.”

“It was an amazing time – I miss the players and the fans, and the production crew that traveled to all the games – we were a well-bonded group,” said Emrick. “This is an opportunity to say thanks to everybody all in one place,” said Emrick.

As a longtime fan I have heard over the last few (playoff) years, that we have the right mix of guys in the locker room.  Then we go out in the first round.  I truly hope this is different this year. Time will tell. DeBoer does seem easy going, sometimes too easy. Not sure what that will mean around playoff time, as that is a different beast & he has yet to coach an NHL playoff game.

It would be a huge stretch to say that we are top contendors for a Stanley Cup this year. If we can get everyone back healthy at the right time, mixed with DeBoer’s coaching style, I think this team can definitely play spoiler. Brodeur has been sharp more often then not, the offensive is streaky but is still able to produce and the defense is a little banged up. I think DeBoer has the right coaching style to stay with this squad for a long time. He is hard when he needs to be, but understanding at the right times as well. I think this is a good group of guys ready to try to make a run when no one expects them to go deep.

On a seperate note it says you are from Butler. I went to Butler High and grew up in Bloomingdale. Small world!

his demeanor

Does he not look like a man who is about to hang himself?
(just appearance-wise, I’m sure he’s a great coach).

At times he does have a very depressed look on his face haha but I wouldn’t go that far!

LOL.  Pavlak, I trolled you hard at the start of the year.  I said you had rose-glasses, but it looks like you know what you’re talking about.  Sorry bout that.  Kind of a hell of year for the Devs.  I like your column.

Thanks a lot. That’s appreciated. And it certainly has been. If they can keep this up they may be playing the role of spoiler in the playoffs.

Just because I cheer for the Flyers, doesn’t mean I don’t keep up with the other teams in the division, specifically the New Jersey Devils.
