Sometimes a Banana is Just a Banana

In The Province:

The new agent for Markus Naslund said the rumoured sale of the unrestricted free agent’s home in Vancouver doesn’t necessarily mean the Canuck captain’s playing days here are over.

“I haven’t been involved with him long enough, but if in fact his home has sold, I don’t think that has a bearing on his decision about next season,” agent Donald Baizley said Monday from his Winnipeg office.

No, it probably doesn’t indicate much of anything about Naslund’s playing career, but it was still a worrisome story. Not because of the sale of his house, but who he sold his house to.

First, thoughts from Spector when this rumor first came to light on the weekend:

Even if this is true it doesn’t necessarily mean that Naslund’s on his way out of town. Remember the hype about Sundin selling his Toronto home last summer? Turned out he merely wanted to move to a small place.

Indeed. Sometimes a banana is just a banana, and a house sale is just a house sale.

But this whole rumor started when Greg Douglas dropped this tidbit in his Vancouver Sunnews roundup:

[Is] it merely a coincidence that Markus Naslund has reportedly sold his luxurious Vancouver home just two weeks before he becomes a free agent? The hot rumour along real estate row is that Lululemon founder and chairman Chip Wilson has purchased the Naslund residence in a private deal that didn’t involve any agents…

The Chip Wilson connection is sort of sinister; the architect of the seaweed sweatpants might be a friend of Naslund’s? As a former Lululemon victim remarks:

i hate lululemon with a passion. they charge $97 for a pair of sweatpants? [...] it’s a cult.

Can’t argue with that.

And honestly, I don’t ever want to see anything like this going on in the Canucks workout room…
