Yesterday was one hell of a day for Canucks fans with a hockey fetish. Trade deadlines create an atmosphere of both anticipation and fear; we look forward to exciting new changes while we fear losing our favorite players. Or at least I do.
I'm not going to editorialize much on the Smolinski and Sopel deals till I have some time to think about them further. But my first impression is that we got a very good deal on two solid players. Furthermore, yesterday's activity further cements my once-reluctant respect for GM Dave Nonis. He's done well asserting his vision for this team in a high-pressure Vancouver market. Not to mention arising from the shadow of predecessor Brian Burke. Well done, Dave.As a result of all this, Canucks & Beyond had it's biggest traffic day ever on Monday, as thousands were referred here to check out the latest Canucks deals. The Smolinski post was a huge reason for that -- and isn't that ironic considering my review of SMS hockey updates earlier in the day? (I only wonder if Sportsnet grasps that irony. Geez...) Anyway, thanks to everyone who visited, linked and emailed C&B yesterday. Crazy day.Today I think the only thing to watch is Sami Salo. If Salo signs a deal with the Canucks, then Nonis is definitely done. But until that deal happens I'll be on egg shells myself. I'm firmly in the camp of people who say, "Keep Salo no matter what." I guess we'll see. If anyone envisions any other Canucks issues at this point, feel free to share, but Salo's the only thing on my mind at the moment.Keep an eye on Kukla's Korner for changes around the NHL all day. I'll be helping at that site mostly, but anything Canucks-related that crosses my radar, I'll have it posted here in a flash. Promise.
Spector's Trade Rumours will be on top of every rumor all day. And these Canucks bloggers all have posts worth checking out as well: Canucks Hockey Blog, The Yankee Canuck, The Chief Canuck, Waiting for Stanley, Stick in Rink, Jes Golbez's Hockey Rants. (If I've forgotten anyone, my apologies. My brain is mush.)Note 2:
