Remembering Lubo

03/06/2008 at 4:03pm EST

Today is the great Lubomir Vaic’s birthday. Don’t know Lubo? Well, that’s sad, but for those who do—and the many of us out there who were once addicted to Vaic Fan’s strange blog—here’s a birthday tribute to Lubo.

With Vaic Fan’s permission, some classic posts reprinted.

It is not very well-known, but back in the day Lubomir Vaic was expected to be an exciting prospect to play alongside Henrik Sedin of the Vancouver Canucks.

My secret sources tell me that in the late 1990s, Henrik’s twin brother Daniel was widely considered to be “clumsy” and “oafish” and “more of a f#@king ballet dancer than a hockey player”.

Now I have photographic evidence to prove how close Lubo was to playing his career alongside Henrik Sedin and his $3.600 million contract.

I don’t know what happened after but it seems like more proof that Sweden is evil.

To distract myself, I have been reading about Madonna, the Greatest Performer of Our Generation, and I discovered she’s been fighting with her husband. And then I found out why:

Some people might make fun of Vaic Fan for reading the gossip magazines, but those people would never find photos of the great Lubomir Vaic ready to get it on with Madonna, would they?

So many people showed up to the Los Angeles auditions for American Idol last week, I almost didn’t spot Lubo there!

Rumor has it that he has made it through the early cuts and might be invited to star on the show in January. This could mean dire things for his hockey career, but of course I’m still very excited.

I didn’t know Lubo could sing. Is there anything he can’t do?

Happy Birthday, Lubo! And rest in peace, Vaic Fan…

note: Vaic Fan tells me Lubo Van Gogh prints are still available… pretty much all of ‘em, in fact. :)
