Politics & Hockey -- The Fun Way

10/02/2008 at 4:47pm EDT

imageWhen politics and hockey collide, it’s seldom interesting, fun or even all that rational. Which is why I was pleasantly surprised to discover a new candidate had entered the American political arena—one who, in his own words, “isn’t afraid to dig in the corners and make goalies wet their pants.”

It’s Pierre, the Phoenix Coyotes own mascot with the bad French accent and a plan for exactly nothing.

But that hasn’t stopped him from campaigning…

His website is Pierre08.com—currently I’m having trouble accessing it, but it might just be my computer. If not, I’m sure they’ll fix any issues shortly.

It is silly? Sure. But the Coyotes have a great track record for producing clever promotions and fun media for their online fans that plenty of the more entrenched old-school hockey markets could learn from. (Off the top of my head, I’d say some other ‘unconventional’ hockey markets with a gift for clever promotions would be the Los Angeles Kings and Dallas Stars.)

Anyway, for your audio download entertainment, here is one of Pierre’s “attack” ads and here is an interview with the unusual political candidate.

Below are some bumper stickers.
