Personal vs Professional Life

01/15/2008 at 3:00pm EST

Apparently there are people still annoyed that Roberto Luongo turned down the All Star Game invite, with Jason Botchford at The Province going so far as to remark he’s heard “rumblings” around the league that Louie’s decision will cost him votes at Vezina time. (You just gotta love Vancouver call-in sports radio shows for idiots that like to “rumble”...).

Well, the facts are that Luongo has a family he hasn’t seen in months and a wife in a delicate, touch-and-go pregnancy.

A reflective Luongo said he’s more sure than ever he made the right choice. He has been away from his wife for most of the season. She went back to Florida to be with family because of her “delicate” pregnancy.

“I never doubted it was the right choice,” Luongo said. “My values are important to me. This is an important time in my life. I don’t get to spend much time with my wife or the baby. This is probably the last time I’ll be able to do it before the baby is born.”

Not to mention, he could probably use the time off from a hockey standpoint as well, so cut the guy some slack already. I even hired a psychic to gaze into the future, and it looks like everything is going to work out just fine:
