Roberto Luongo went down in the first period of today’s midday game, and while fans everywhere freak out, reports on the Penguins television broadcast were detailed and informative: it’s a “lower body injury,” they say.
Well, thank God for that explanation.
But the reports on Sportsnet tv were no less informative. Claiming to have the “official word from the Canucks” reporter Dan Murphy informs us that “Roberto Luongo is injured and won’t be returning to this game.” Gee, ya think?

My own thoughts on Lui’s injury are that if it’s his groin (which I doubt, but who knows) I would think it would be minor—I don’t think he could’ve tweaked it too badly in that position. But if it’s his knee, that’s another story. Given the extension of his leg when he pulled up, I can see how he may have seriously damaged it. (Votes for a ripped tendon, anyone?)

Apparently a left-leg injury is being reported in some circles, but Iain MacIntyre at the Vancouver Sun maintains it’s a “serious left groin injury” and that he’s confirmed the “type” of injury with GM Mike Gillis.

Vancouver Canucks General Manager Mike Gillis announced Saturday that goaltender Cory Schneider has been recalled from the Manitoba Moose of the AHL. The club also announced they have re-assigned defenceman Nolan Baumgartner to Manitoba.
Schnieder, 22, has posted a record of 10 wins and one loss, with one shutout in 11 games played this season with Manitoba. In addition his 1.37 GAA is the lowest in the AHL and his .945 save percentage places him second in that category as well.
