Howling at the Moon

imageApparently the Phoenix Coyotes have decided to throw themselves into some new directions in marketing lately.

On the heels of yesterday’s release of their new advertising campaign promoting the manic Inspector Clouseau-esque snowman (that I think is great, by the way), the Coyotes announced a new promotion - a deal with iTunes that lets you browse and/or purchase the playlists of different members of the team. It’s called Coyotes Trax.

Wayne Gretzky’s playlist, for instance, appears to be 19 tunes nearly all from Canadian artists—tastes ranging from Nickelback to Triumph to BTO. And Shane Doan’s? A rockin’ country boy. (All of which is generally giving me a better idea how NHL arenas decide on their music choices… ugh).

Regardless, it’s not a bad idea. Suddenly I want to know the playlist of some of my favorite Canucks—especially coach Alain Vigneault. It’s easy to imagine he (and all his mobster-clad coaching staff, for that matter) listen to nothing but Frank Sinatra. But maybe there are surprises.

Maybe he owns all the albums of Mitsou, or something insane.

Inquiring minds want to know.
