Post-Game Notes
I'm actually already sick of everybody's whining... and I haven't even heard it yet. But dear God, I just know I'm going to in a matter of hours... it's about due to explode all over the newspapers in time for Thursday's sunrise.Don't get me wrong here - I'm not happy, and I can see the huge mountain in front of the Canucks as clear as anyone. But I don't think it takes any brilliant hockey analysis to come up with a few obvious 'excuses' for tonight's performance, either.1. Just had a 7 game series win, which was made even more gruelling by the loss of guys like Kesler and Cooke. It was a hard fought win. 2. No rest at all. A huge emotional win, then a plane ride to California and the game the next day. 3. A team that so seriously depends on defence lost TWO of it's top-4 defencemen on game day. 4. Anaheim is - not unexpectedly - really fu#king good.None of these four things are guaranteed to change, except maybe getting a breather on #2. I wasn't expecting miracles for game #1, so I wasn't that disappointed. But I'll have much bigger expectations of this team for Game #2. I want to see them play like I know they can, regardless of the adversity. I guess we'll see.
