Darcy Hordichuk is Comfortable with His Manhood

09/04/2008 at 2:28am EDT

The Vancouver Canucks new enforcer Darcy Hordichuk introduces his dogs to the Vancouver Sun:

“They are to protect my wife,” Hordichuk winked Wednesday after a skate at Burnaby 8-Rinks. “They’re two big killers. Twelve pounds each. We named Chandler when we lived in Chandler, Ariz., and Franklin when we lived in Franklin, Tenn. They’re loving it here in Vancouver, walking up and down the streets of Yaletown meeting all the other dogs.”

Meet the Killers:

Good God… a couple of Shih Tzus and an affection for walking them around freakin’ Yaletown is the kind of double-whammy confession that would get most guys stuffed into their lockers, wearing a dress. (On the plus side, I figure at least there’s a small mercy in knowing that Chandler isn’t named after Matthew Perry’s character on Friends—now that would’ve been disturbing.)

Incidentally, how awesome is it that the Vancouver Sun was diligent enough to be sure we knew which dog was which. “Franklin, (left)”. Because you needed to know that.

Anyway, more random trivia about Hordichuk in the Sun piece:

He’s Ukranian, thus has one of those highly-coveted grandmas who force-feed you perogies. Yum.

The first time he was called up to the NHL he fought Bob Probert. Twice. (Ouch).

His stint with the Canucks is his first time playing for a Canadian NHL team.
