Cory Schneider Signed to Canucks

07/03/2007 at 2:12pm EDT
Reports are that TEAM 1040 radio in Vancouver announced the signing of goalie of the future (i.e. when Roberto Luongo grows old and dies) Cory Schneider, to an entry-level contract with the Canucks. (I didn't hear the TEAM 1040 report myself... anyone else?) Anyway, sounds like Dany Sabourin's abandoned bench warming job may have been claimed.Update 9:15am PT:Canucks Press Release
Vancouver Canucks Senior Vice-President and General Manager Dave Nonis announced today that the Canucks have signed goaltender Cory Schneider. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Update 11:02am PT: A reminder of Schneider's recent activities from TSN -- "Schneider has been playing in the NCAA for Boston College and holds the school single-season records for saves at 1,088 and shutouts at eight. Both records were set during the 2005/06 season."Update 9:22pm PT: Comments from Schneider in the Boston Herald:
"There’s pretty much zero chance of me making the team with Luongo there. I need the time to develop at Manitoba." Schneider could become the subject of trade talks, a possibility that he is prepared for. "I understand it’s a business and I’d deal with it and move on,” Schneider said. “I’m happy to be a part of Vancouver’s organization, but it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world to go somewhere where I’d have a better chance to play."
