The HF boards commenter then added: “...are the Devils absolutley nuts!?!? Has [Lamoriello] lost his mind?? Trading Elias for Morrison and Ohlund!!”

Well, screw that. Is NONIS nuts? That’s my question.

I like Elias. I’d embrace him like a long lost friend on the scoring front. But don’t try to tell me that giving up Morrison and Ohlund is the equivalent of gaining Elias. I’m not even going to start on Ohlund’s value to this team. Let’s just look at Brendan… Morrison’s trade value has gone up significantly during Free Agent Madness this week.

EXAMPLE:
Brendan Morrison - 2006 - 07 - 51 points
Patrik Elias - 2006-07 - 69 points
Daniel Briere - 2006-07 - 95 points

Morrison wasn’t in top shape last season, no question. But hey, he costs $3.2 mill. And Daniel Briere’s new salary for this coming year? $10,000,000 for the 07/08 season. And Patrik Elias? Oh yeah… great stuff—the very lovely sum of $7,200,000.

Elias just MIGHT be worth losing Morrison straight across. But he sure as hell isn’t worth losing Morrison AND Ohlund.
