Aaron Miller Goes on the Shelf

09/11/2007 at 10:26pm EDT

From CBS Sports,

New Vancouver Canucks defenseman Aaron Miller will undergo minor abdominal surgery on Tuesday, one day before the opening of training camp.

Miller, who signed a one-year, $1.5-million contract as an unrestricted free agent this summer, is expected to rejoin the Canucks during the preseason, general manager Dave Nonis said in a statement. After further consultation with our medical team, it was decided that surgery was the best course of action,” Nonis said. “It is expected that Aaron will make a full recovery in two weeks.”

A full recovery in two weeks, we’re supposed to be reassured? Oy.

Well, that’s all well and good but why on earth is this happening one day prior to training camp…? There’s no indication what caused this injury to Miller - or when. (Maybe he fell off his roller skates last week? Perhaps someone can enlighten me.) Meanwhile, I’m just going to assume that the medical staff and team procrastinated on the necessity of the surgery all summer and ultimately realized he needed it more than they thought.

And even if he’s in the game in the 2 weeks, is it likely he’ll be fully recovered? Two weeks sounds awfully fast after a surgery to a core muscle area, “minor” or not.
