A pair of late-season additions are making an impact for the Vancouver Canucks in their chase for the Stanley Cup this playoff.
Forward Chris Higgins and centre Maxim Lapierre, both acquired at the trade deadline, have joined right-winger Jannik Hansen on the Canucks’ third line.

Are those two ever paying off. Impossible not to miss Manny Malhotra, but that line’s chemistry certainly reduces the pain.
(Nashville can have their “hockey royalty”... I’ll take a hard-checking, energetic and punishing third line any day of the week.)
And for more Canucks-off-day reading, this article on athletes and nutrition came out two years ago but was re-published today for some reason. It’s very interesting in general, but also specifically to Canucks fans because it discusses the specific dietary management of the team.
Incidentally, did you know hockey players burn 1,100 - 1,200 calories an hour on average (when in a game or practice)? Maybe not that surprising, but sort of a shock to discover the nutritionist in Vancouver has the team limited to eating an egg, a smoothie and some toast for breakfast. Not that that isn’t just fine for us normal people, but geez, if your morning workout is likely to burn 1000 calories, it sounds like a challenge.
It’s a pretty strict diet she outlines—though I could probably afford to learn from that diet, come to think of it.
