Canucks and Beyond

Canucks Training Camp and Other Adventures

The Canucks are gradually reducing their roster, and players who have been released thus far read like a who’s who of the hockey world… gone so far are defencemen Sawyer Hannay and Marc Anthony Zanetti, and goalie David Honzik.  Shocking stuff.

So, who remains?

Flames facing a Canucks team with Steve Begin, Anders Eriksson, Todd Fedoruk and Manny Legace. Is it 2001?

—Randy Sportak, Calgary Sun, via Twitter

Definitely peculiar when you put it like that. Though in a world where the likes of Russ Courtnall, Brad May, Boyd Devereaux and others are going to be competitive ice dancing in the coming weeks, is it really that odd?

But back to the Canucks.  And the Flames. Who probably aren’t facing any of Sportak’s 2001 Dream Team, as it happens.

Here are the lineups for tonight.  (Note: link states that this lineup is for Sept 21st, but I believe that’s a typo. Tomorrow’s tentative lineup is here).  So, tonight’s, as far as we know:

Should be an All Star caliber Super-Match of epic proportions.

Or maybe not. But at least it’s a hockey game. Finally!

Meanwhile, as Canucks dip their toes back onto the ice and start shaking loose some rust,  the Boston Bruins are coming out of their Stanley Cup Hangover with some good stories to tell.

You can read the complete tale of misadventure here

A few of those tired old Sedin “sisters” -type references, but still mixed with some cleverness

It didn’t make me want to punch anybody, at least, so maybe I’m finally getting over the pain of June and recovering my sense of humour. smile

Honzik and Polasek? Good to see the Canucks upping their Czech quotient!
