from Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News,
Get the game into overtime, and the Detroit Red Wings feel good about their chances these days.
Now, that’s not the ideal recipe for success. But it sure has been working.
They did it again Wednesday against the Boston Bruins, tied after 60 minutes, then Andreas Athanasiou scored his second goal of the game just 49 seconds into overtime, giving the Red Wings a 3-2 victory.
Athanasiou snapped a loose puck over goalie Tuukka Rask’s right shoulder, his team-leading ninth goal, giving the Wings (10-9-2) their ninth win in the last 11 games.
They’ve won six of their last seven, with three of those victories coming in overtime, where the Wings are 4-1 this season.
from Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press,
Tyler Bertuzzi had needled his teammate, had been on him to make something happen. The response was laughter — and another celebration for the Detroit Red Wings.
They take a 9-2 stretch on the road Friday at Washington, stoked by rallying to win in overtime, 3-2, against the Boston Bruins Wednesday at Little Caesars Arena. Andreas Athanasiou did the honors on a turnaround shot from the slot, his second goal of the game. Bertuzzi might have been his happiest teammate.
“The last two games I was telling him to do something out there,” Bertuzzi said, smiling. “Just to get under his nerves. He laughed it off.”
