Wings Acquire Goaltender Eric Comrie

GLENDALE, ARIZONA - Arizona Coyotes President of Hockey Operations and General Manager John Chayka announced today that the Coyotes have acquired defenseman Vili Saarijarvi from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for goaltender Eric Comrie.

Comrie was claimed off waivers from the Winnipeg Jets on October 1st and did not make an appearance with the Coyotes.

DETROIT –The Detroit Red Wings today acquired goaltender Eric Comrie from the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for defenseman Vili Saarijarvi.

Comrie, 24, was claimed off waivers by Arizona from the Winnipeg Jets on Oct. 1 but has not seen NHL action this season, appearing in four games with the American Hockey League’s Tucson Roadrunners on a conditioning stint. Comrie won all four of his starts with the Roadrunners, posting a 2.75 goals-against average and 0.900 save percentage. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound netminder made five NHL appearances with Winnipeg over the last three seasons (2016-19), posting a 2-3-0 record, 4.21 goals-against average and 0.870 save percentage. A fifth-year pro, Comrie has played in 187 AHL games with the St. John’s IceCaps, Manitoba Moose and Roadrunners since 2013-14, collecting an 81-83-20 record, 2.88 goals-against average, 0.910 save percentage and eight shutouts.

Comrie was originally drafted by the Jets in the second round (59th overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Prior to turning professional, he spent four seasons with the Tri-City Americans of the Western Hockey League, logging 158 games played, an 85-64-15 record, 2.67 goals-against average, 0.916 save percentage and 10 shutouts. Comrie was twice named a WHL Second-Team All-Star and led the circuit in save percentage in 2013-14 (0.925), in which he played a career-high 60 games. An Edmonton, Alberta, native, Comrie has won two gold medals on the international stage with Canada, logging a 1.50 goals-against average and 0.933 save percentage in two games at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship and a 2.00 goals-against average and 0.913 save percentage in one appearance at the 2012 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. Comrie is also the half-brother of former University of Michigan standout (1998-00) and 10-year NHL veteran (2000-11) Mike Comrie.
