One former NHL player recalls a goofy line of questioning from an Eastern Conference team’s general manager, who took him through a litany of potential game scenarios to see how he’d react.
GM: What if you’re in Detroit the next night and Bob Probert two-hands you over the arm?
Player: I don’t know what I’d do, but I don’t think I’d do anything.
The player couldn’t help but answer honestly, and there was no way he was puffing out his chest and pretending to be a willing combatant with one of the most feared heavyweights in the league.
“How the fuck am I supposed to answer that? Bob Probert had killed basically everybody in the NHL. I’m a skinny 18-year-old. I’m not doing anything to Bob Probert,” the player recalled thinking.
