Sometimes it is good to get the prospective from the other team...
from Ken Warren of the Ottawa Citizen,
The Senators offered up a few extended shifts of pressure against Red Wings goaltender Jonathan Bernier, but were ultimately buried by an awful one-minute lapse midway through the first period.
Danny DeKeyser and Darren Helm beat Senators goaltender Craig Anderson 39 seconds apart to account for the 2-0 Red Wings lead they carried the rest of the way.
Bernier made 35 saves to register the 17th shutout of his career and first since Jan. 4, 2018. It’s the second time the Senators have been shut out this season.
“We’re in the game,” said Anderson. “That’s one thing. We’re there at the end. We’re close, a couple of bounces here or there. Their second goal comes off a lucky bounce that turns into a 2-on-1. At the end, we were pushing hard, but Bernier came up big for them.”
from Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News,
General manager Ken Holland was alerted of it by a friend after the Red Wings defeated Edmonton almost two weeks ago, the last game before the All-Star break.
Holland was within reach of passing Jack Adams as the winningest GM in Red Wings’ history.
Saturday, the Wings made sure Holland became No. 1 on that list.
The workmanlike 2-0 victory in Ottawa was victory No. 914 for Holland, moving him past the legendary Adams.
“It means I’m getting old,” said Holland, 63, who has been the Wings’ GM since 1997. “When we won in Edmonton a friend of mine sent me a little thing saying I was within one victory of Jack Adams (Holland tied Adams on Friday). You’re in the game because you love the game, and you grow up and get an opportunity one day to be a scout and assistant general manager, and general manager.
