I am not sure if I remember a better 60 minute defensive effort in the last 5 years.

I am going to a game tomorrow, can Husso be in goal please?

Assuming Z out for a while, it'll be interesting to see what kind of call up gets brought in to fill that hole on the roster.  Smith for Sunny made sense to me.  What does management think of Zadina's ideal role with the team?  We could soon find out...

Also, it strikes me that I shouldn't fall in love with Veleno and Ras.  When this is a team constructed for the post-season, there's no way there are nothing but lefty centers.

Why wouldn't they call up Bergren?

Lalonde said they called up Szarnik

The Red Wings recalled center Austin Czarnik from the Grand Rapids Griffins before the game because they had no spare forwards. Lalonde said Czarnik will play Sunday at the New York Rangers (5 p.m., Bally Sports Detroit).

I know it sounds crazy, but we have some experience with having five or six guys out up front, Lalonde said. We have some confidence with it. Next guy up. Austin Czarnik flew in last night and were excited about getting him in tomorrow.

from Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News,

With the 1997 and 1998 Stanley Cup championship teams in attendance, the Wings won their second consecutive game Saturday while the memories flowed, defeating the New York Islanders, 3-0.

"It was fun. It added extra motivation for our team in both of these games to play good in front of those guys," said Lucas Raymond, who had a power-play goal in the victory. "It's been a real fun time here (this weekend)."...

"It was a good game for us," Husso said. "The guys did a real good job. They (the Islanders) only had 11 shots after two periods, so it made my night easy again. In the end, I'm just trying to keep my focus on the game and not let in any goals.

"Guys blocked shots (24) and did all those things again. Big win for us."

Husso saved his best for the third period, with the Islanders pressing, making fine stops on Oliver Wahlstrom and Mathew Barzal.

"Excellent," coach Derek Lalonde said of Husso's performance, who has started four of the last five games. "He, again, it looked like his game from the other day. Calm in net, a couple of big saves but easy saves. Easy saves pile up and pile up and it's just a calming effect on our entire team."

I'd love to Berggren get a look, but Czernik has five goals and five assists in eight games with the Griffs, so let's see what he can do in the NHL. It's too bad what happened to Zadina because he's definitely trying, but he just can't seem to put it all together. I'd be shocked if he's still here next March.

"Excellent," coach Derek Lalonde said of Husso's performance, who has started four of the last five games.

It's 11 games in and I think we have our #1 goalie.

Makes no sense to trade Zadina at this point. He has ZERO points, now he is gone for probably a month or two so by the trade deadline his value will be zero, but I will make a prediction that Bert will be traded.

You guys will like Austin Czarnik.  He is a good 2 way center who can slot in well to a 3rd or 4th line assignment.  Barry Trotz *loved* him and it was a case of Czarnik being the 5th best center on the team - and the Isles waived him - he went to Seattle and the Isles reacquired him (waivers) - because of need as another injury.  With all the players lost to COVID last November, he played a lot of games and had a lot of ice time and did himself well.   This is a good pickup for you.
