from Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press,
The Detroit Red Wings made good on giving their fathers something to cheer.
Playing at Bridgestone Arena clearly appeals to the Wings, as they won in Nashville for the fifth straight time Tuesday, beating the Predators, 3-2.
More importantly, the Wings played better than during the losses at Buffalo and Chicago that sullied the first two stops on the dads' trip. They did make it hard on themselves by taking six penalties, the last with 57 seconds to go in regulation....
The Wings had their hands full trying to contain the Predators as the first period got underway. Jimmy Howard had to make several big saves in the first 10 minutes, including on a Yannick Weber slap shot from the right circle. The Predators powered into Detroit’s zone shift after shift, and when the Wings did get possession of the puck, they had trouble getting through the neutral zone. Shots after the first period were 19-9 to Nashville.
Below, watch the extended game highlights and Jimmy Howard, Luke Glendening, Andreas Athanasiou, Thomas Vanek and Jeff Blashill post-game.
