Videos- A Blowout In Buffalo

10/31/2022 at 11:46pm EDT

from Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News,

"It's a setback," captain Dylan Larkin said. "We didn't show up. They showed up. No matter what level of hockey you play, if you don't show up, it's going to be embarrassing. We have to find "it", "it" meaning the pride of you get into games. One goal game in the third, let's go and let's win battles and make it an even game.

"We just lost way too many battles."...

After an impressive defensive effort during Saturday's victory over Minnesota, coach Derek Lalonde watched his Wings play much too passively against the young, talented Sabres.

"He (Thompson) has a chance to be an absolute superstar," Lalonde said. "Then again, you have to check those guys. Part of that is easy offense five-on-five, but you've seen it when you give elite skill like that free touches if you will, a ton of five-on-threes and four-on-threes (power plays), and they're touching the puck and feeling the puck, and it bleeds into the five-on-five game."

"We hung our goalie out to dry and that stinks," Copp said. "They made it 5-3 and 6-3 and you can't let it go past that. That's just unacceptable.

"The fact is, we're capable of playing good team defense. Fact is, we didn't play good team defense tonight and we're going to have to play good team defense."

Below watch Larkin, Lalonde, Mickey Redmond and the game highlights.

Larkin and Lalonde in one post

Paul

from Kevin Allen of Detroit Hockey Now,

On Halloween Night, Tage Thompson was scary good.

The 6-foot-7 center was a monstrous force, registering six points, to help the Buffalo Sabres overwhelm the Detroit Red Wings in every offensive category to post a 8-3 triumph in Buffalo. The Sabres outshot the Red Wings 46-18

It was another failed Atlantic Division test for the Red Wings. They lost to the Boston Bruins 5-1 on Thursday. The loss to the Sabres may be harder to swallow. The Bruins are a legitimate Stanley Cup contender. The Sabres are a rebuilding team like the Red Wings.

But the Sabres looked much stronger in this game....

And yet the Red Wings were able to whittle away at a 4-3 lead. Larkins shorthanded goal made it a 4-3 game with 15:41 left in regulation. But a Joe Veleno penalty leads to a power play goal by Rasmus Dahlin that restores Buffalos two-goal lead. Then the floodgates opened.

Probably a bad penalty, Lalonde said. We are 200 feet from our own end and take a holding penalty. That goal was ultimately that started the downfall.

Wow, what a joke that game was, on the flip side, this team is shinny and sparkling after that thorough 3 period dusting!

Last year, with 1/2 an AHL roster, 1 rookie goalie, and a couple of guys that couldn't make an NHL squad this year,  most losses, let alone a the blowout we saw last night,  was entirely on Blashill right?

So now that we have actual NHL players, including plenty of veteran players, who takes the responsibility for whatever that was?  Add to that the regression of every young player on this team?

We didn't show up

It's Blash's fault!  In all seriousness, showing up has never been the coach's fault, despite what Uncle Mike said over a decade ago when he tried to shoulder the blame of a roster of HOF'ers.  This is squarely on the players, and the fact that this roster is comprised of new, experienced vets is more frustrating than ever.  They knew they were playing in Buffalo against an improved Buffalo team that's doing well.

I expect they'll play their next game better, but it's for naught if they don't have a better, more sustained effort the next five plus games.

memo to captain Larkin: an explanation as to what prompts a professional hockey team to not show up should be forthcoming, especially with one SY looking on.

please advise.

(on a personal note Dylan, it's time that you pick that head up and look at the camera when speaking.)
