Video- The After Practice Talk

Coach Lalonde first, below is Jordan Oesterle.

Paul

I will continue to post these videos of the player interviews, but I am fed up with employees of the Wings asking the questions.

ChillDistillerPaul

If you can even hear the questions is a total crap shoot.

That's primarily why I don't watch those. It's like a state-run TV channel - it's all platitudes and happy talk. At least w the media, there's an incentive to dig a little deeper, maybe get a scoop.

Paulnctheo

Ha, if they did do some digging, they would probably get fired.

Today the Wings reassigned defenseman Seth Barton and goaltender Sebastian Cossa to Toledo.

Glad I got to see Cossa play last night, since almost all of the other wings prospects were not in the lineup. I'm still not sure why Simon didn't play, I was really disappointed.

from Kevin Allen of Detroit Hockey Now,

The Detroit Red Wings brain trust didnt need a lengthy debate to determine whether they needed to call up younger players from their Grand Rapids farm team to replace missing players Tyler Bertuzzi and Jakub Vrana.

It was an easy conversation, Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde said.

Thanks to general manager Steve Yzermans offseason acquisitions, the Red Wings still have 12 forwards and seven defensemen they trust. The depth of this team is far more impressive than it was a year ago.

Were comfortable with this right now, Lalonde said. With (Grand Rapids) being so close, if something happens and we need to pull somebody we will, but for the meantime were comfortable where our lineup is at....

Regardless of what line Perron or Raymond play on, Bertuzzis injury and Vranas entry into the NHL/NHLPA Assistance Program, opens the door for Kubalik and Zadina to have an expanded role.

Kubalik seems to be exceeding expectations just a bit. Lalonde said coming into camp he didnt give him enough credit for being a skater.

When I competed against him in the American Hockey League even the National Hockey League in the past few
years, hes a shooter, hes a finisher, Lalonde said. But hes helped our 5-on-5 game with his skating. Hes getting above, hes keeping plays alive on the forecheck. Hes turning tracks into offense because of his skating. Theres a perfect example of a guy who was playing in the bottom of our lineup a week ago and now hes seeing some top-six time.Thats the luxury of depth we have that we just havent had in the past.

from Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News,

"When I noticed I'm not going to be in Chicago anymore, I was kind of looking for another opportunity and especially where the team would want me as a player. That's what happened and I'm happy to be here," Kubalik said. "The team tried to make another step forward, which is always a good sign and I'm ready to play and be part of it."

Kubalik has three points (one goal, two assists) in three games thus far and has risen to the top line with Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond following the absences this week of Tyler Bertuzzi (upper-body injury) and Jakub Vrana (NHL/NHLPA player assistance program).

Kubalik has quickly adjusted to the Wings.

"One thing with Dominik that I probably didn't give him enough credit is his ability to skate," coach Derek Lalonde said. "Competing against him in the AHL and Chicago the last few years, he's a shooter and finisher. But he's helped us because he's skating and getting above (pucks) and keeping plays alive on the forecheck."

Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
