from Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News,

Andrew Copp picked a good time for his first Wings' goal, scoring the eventual game-winner Thursday against Washington late in the third period.

Copp afterward was hopeful of maybe his first goal kind of opening the floodgates for many more.

If that happens, great, as far as coach Derek Lalonde is concerned. But Lalonde simply wants Copp to play the all -around game that pushed the Wings to sign Copp in free agency last summer.

"For me, again, we don't judge him on goals," said Lalonde, who felt the goal will give Copp confidence. "It completes his game, and it was a big goal (Thursday), but we just need minute after minute in every situation from him."

It was Copp's ability to score but also defend, as well as his ability to thrive on both the power play and penalty kill, along with his leadership qualities, that made Copp, in the Wings' eyes, a natural fit as the second-line center.

"He's hard on himself, and that's why he's a special player," Lalonde said. "But we have really liked what he has given us, and the offense was a bonus last night."

Paul - love the new site. But constantly having to login is bonkers. Will it get better?

More importantly, does anyone know what Sundy's injury is?

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
