Tyler Bertuzzi Will Miss Another Six Weeks

12/02/2022 at 3:42pm EST

from Kevin Allen of Detroit Hockey Now,

“You feel for him,” Detroit coach Derek Lalonde said. “He’s out trying to get his game back in order and obviously has another setback.”

The setback is a six-week stay on the injured list. Bertuzzi had successful surgery this morning to repair damage to his left hand that resulted from being hit by teammate Ben Chiarot in Wednesday’s 5-4 shootout loss to the Buffalo Sabres. The Red Wings will only say it is an upper body injury.

He had only been back seven games after spending a month on the injured list after he appeared to injure his right hand while blocking a shot in the second game of the season against the New Jersey Devils.

“Both were bad luck,” Lalonde said. “This one was on the offensive side, just being in the hard areas around the net. This other one, he blocked a shot on the defensive side of things.”

from Kevin Allen of Detroit Hockey Now,

Lalonde was asked whether Berggren has made a favorable impression after Wednesdays 5-4 shootout loss to Buffalo, and he replied: Oh yeah, of course. His five-on-five play, I trust that line.

But then Lalonde went onto to explain that Berggren had his fingerprints on a Buffalo goal.

Like him to play that a little bit better, Lalonde said. When you play well like that you can clean up littlethings like that. We talked about the penalty he took the other day, a couple turnovers on the half-wall. Its easier to develop somebody when theyre playing the right way, a young player. Its easy to clean some little things up in his game but playing with confidence. Glad one went in for him (against Buffalo).

The Red Wings may be demanding more from Berggren simply because they believe he has a chance to be a significant contributor over time.
