Tyler Bertuzzi Must Be Signed This Summer

07/19/2022 at 7:48pm EDT

from Kevin Allen of Detroit Hockey Now,

Imagine the return the Red Wings would receive for a player with his blend of talents. You could guess that the Red Wings would land at least a first-round pick, an “A” level prospect and a third asset.

Maybe more.

The Red Wings’ objective is to get Bertuzzi signed to some contract that doesn’t allow him to be an unrestricted free agent next summer. Is that four-year deal? A five-year deal? How about an eight-year deal?

Presumably, they are talking. Maybe both see the number that can get it done. We just don’t know....

But you can sense around the Detroit organization is that there is some concern about getting this deal done with Bertuzzi. Yzerman negotiated a two-year $9.5 million deal that covered last season and next season. Nothing was said by either side, but the length of that deal suggests negotiations might not have been smooth.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
