from Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press,
The Detroit Red Wings will carry 67 players into Friday’s start of training camp.
The 37 forwards, 22 defensemen and eight goaltenders will be split into three groups for the first two days of on-ice activities, then separated into two groups that will compete in Sunday’s Red-White game. The event in Traverse City concludes with Monday’s practices, after which the Wings will return to Detroit in preparation for the first of nine exhibition games.
The breakdown among teams Howe, Delvecchio and Lindsay have yet to be released, but usually it’s a mix of veterans and prospects, plus camp tryouts. It's a good opportunity to experiment with different line combinations and defense pairings.
Top drafted prospects vying for jobs include forwards Filip Zadina, Evgeny Svechnikov, Michael Rasmussen, Christoffer Ehn, and Joe Veleno, along with free-agent signings Taro Hirose (who had an excellent showing in 10 games last spring) and Ryan Kuffner. Defense prospects include draftees Dennis Cholowski and Moritz Seider and free-agent signee Oliwer Kaski.
When the roster is released, of course I will post it.
