Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
The Wings had an off day today so I imagine Lalonde will have an update on Bertuzzi tomorrow.
Jordan Oesterle on the first quarter of the season.
Not a good contract year for Bert.
That just sucks!
The problem is we will not be able to trade him and probably lose him for nothing.
Hate to see it happen in a contract year in the prime of his career, but on the bright side maybe this gives the wings a better chance of bringing him back on a one/two year deal or sign him to a lower AAV on a longer deal.
Bert will come back in Jan, get his legs (and hopefully scoring touch) by TDL time. Teams know who he is and his style, so I imagine we'll find a buyer for a decent, if not mind blowing, trade.
I don't see signing him at all right now, tho. But maybe this does tank his contract leverage and we keep him, tho we do need room in the top 6. Berggren needs to stay up, and there are some good looking kids in GR (and Europe) who should get a shot next year.
He had looked like he had been skipping leg day for a while now before the injury. Hope he can turn it around.
Bert is the living embodiment of the phrase: "If it wasn't for bad luck, he'd have no luck at all."
