Time To Take A Look At Gustav Lindstrom

02/05/2020 at 4:52pm EST

from Ansar Khan of Mlive,

“Gustav did a really good job in training camp,” Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said. “Talking to Steve (Yzerman), (Griffins coach) Ben Simon, (Red Wings assistant GM) Ryan Martin, (advisor to the GM) Niklas Kronwall, everybody that’s seen him have all been real pleased with his play. They think he’s one of their better defensemen on a nightly basis and I think we’re all cautiously optimistic that he can come up and do a good job.

“He defends well and passes the puck and competes. If you can defend well and pass the puck out of your zone -- we all know that’s been an issue for us – what that does is help you offensively.”

Yzerman opted for Lindstrom over Moritz Seider, the No. 6 pick in the 2019 draft. Yzerman indicated previously that Seider will be called up at some point (for a maximum of nine games, to avoid exhausting a year of his entry-level contract).

“Right now, we wanted to leave Seider where Seider is,” Blashill said. “He’s a first-year pro, so at this time as we stand here today, we’re going to let him continue to play (in the AHL).”

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
