The Wings "Have To Better"

added 12:43pm, Wings sign prospect Seth Barton, press release is below.

from Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News,

A familiar problem is cropping up for the Red Wings.

They can't score goals, an issue for quite a while now, and Tuesday it led to the Wings losing 2-0 in Nashville.

The Predators returned home after a franchise-record 16-day road trip. But never mind tallying all those miles, and rarely leaving their hotel room, Nashville appeared to be the more energized team most of the night.

The Wings put 31 shots on goaltender Juuse Saros — Darren Helm had two superb chances go awry — but the Wings failed on three power plays and extended their goal-less streak to 130 minutes, 55 seconds.

"I don't think we're generating enough," forward Dylan Larkin said. "I don't think we're hard enough to play against, making teams defend. I don't think we're making it hard on the other team's goalies (not) getting around the net and making him make saves.

"I'm not panicking but we all know we have to be better."

from Ansar Khan of Mlive,

The Red Wings’ troubles began before they entered the zone.

“They’re one of the best forechecking teams in the league … and I thought we did a poor job of being quick out of our zone,” Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said. “I thought we slowed ourselves down and didn’t get pucks behind them. And then they’re in a 1-3-1 (defensive formation) in the neutral zone and we played too slow, so we had to maneuver through that, and we turned too many pucks over.”

The Red Wings won two of their previous four games against Nashville this season and one of the losses was the result of a goal in the final minute of the third period. They know what it takes to succeed against this team but must execute much better when they meet again Thursday.

“It starts with work ethic, and I’m sure Blash is going to talk about compete level, making it hard for their guys,” Larkin said. “I’m not panicking but we know we have to be better.”

DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings today signed defenseman Seth Barton to a two-year entry-level contract beginning with the 2021-22 season.
Barton, 21, just concluded his junior season at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell, where he tied for the team lead among defensemen and for fifth overall on the team with 11 points (2-9-11) and four penalty minutes in 20 games and helped the team advance to the Hockey East championship game. As a sophomore in 2019-20, Barton tied for seventh on the River Hawks with a collegiate career-high 15 points (3-12-15) and 20 penalty minutes in 30 games, also ranking 10th among all Hockey East blueliners in points. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound defenseman was a two-time Hockey East All-Academic Team selection and totaled 36 points (7-29-36) and 49 penalty minutes in 83 games at the school since 2018-19.
Originally drafted by Detroit in the third round (81st overall) of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, Barton was chosen with a draft pick acquired by the Red Wings from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for goaltender Petr Mrazek. Prior to his three years at Mass.-Lowell, Barton spent one season with the Trail Smoke Eaters of the British Columbia Hockey League, posting 33 points (6-27-33) and 32 penalty minutes in 49 games and adding 11 points (3-8-11) in 16 postseason games. A native of Kelowna, British Columbia, Barton also won a gold medal with Canada West at the 2017 World Junior A Challenge, contributing two assists in five games.
