from Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch,
According to TSN’s Darren Dreger, the Blues were represented at Little Caesars for Monday’s Red Wings game against Columbus and seemed to be paying a lot of attention to Howard. Dreger said it would take a lot for the Red Wings to part with Howard and mentioned Blues rookie Robert Thomas and Blues prospect Jordan Kyrou as possibilities.
That seems like a lot to ask considering Howard would be a rental — his contract expires after this season.
There was no mention of Allen as part of any trade package by TSN, but it wouldn’t make sense to take on Howard without dispensing with Allen.
There would be salary cap considerations in any such deal involving the goalies. Howard is making $5.29 million this year; Allen is making $4.35 million and has two years remaining on his contract after this season (at $4.35 million a year).
Both the Red Wings and Blues are extremely tight against the cap, with CapFriendly.com currently projecting Detroit with zero cap space available at the end of the season and the Blues with $40,000....
Asked about the TSN report, Blues general manager Doug Armstrong said he does not respond to rumors.
