A nice gesture.
Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
Thats a nice gesture by the organ-I-zation. Maybe hell catch on somewhere else, it is time for the Wings to try someone different. I never really got a feeling for how he would contribute significantly to the club. Good luck.
I really wanted this to work out as this organization still has so little toughness. But when Givani ended the season early with lingering concussion symptoms after a not very good showing against a legit but mediocre fighter in McEwen, maybe the writing was sort of on the wall. Never got the sense Lalonde seriously considered Smith among the top thirteen or so forwards.
Was just checking Givanis basic numbers with the Griffins this year the night before he was traded and those numbers practically screamed change of scenery. When I saw Anaheim I thought: well, Verbeek knows him and they could use some toughness. But same with Florida, his actual destination.
Enjoy the rays and good luck being at least a part-time NHLer in another organization. Im still convinced SY and Briesbois worked a little deal to give Givani and Gemel a chance to play one game together before Gemel went back on waivers and TB claimed him back for veteran depth. Maybe theyll see each other as opponents for the odd game Florida vs Tampa.
Now how about some some toughness for the Wings?
