from Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press,
Fabbri is the sixth player Yzerman has added to the roster. He signed free agents Patrik Nemeth and Valtteri Filppula, and traded for Adam Erne, Alex Biega and Perlini. Erne cost a fourth-round pick in 2020, Biega cost underachieving prospect David Pope, and Perlini cost defense prospect Alec Regula, a third-round pick from 2018.
Yzerman’s moves have all been attempts to patch a rebuild that still needs another wave of prospects to become impact players before the playoffs are realistic. That isn’t happening this season. If Yzerman thought prospects such as Evgeny Svechnikov or Filip Zadina were ready to make an impact at the NHL level, they would be with the Wings.
The organization knew this would be another tough season, but the blowout losses have warranted low-risk gambles. Perlini has no points and is minus-3 in the four games he has played. Fabbri, 5-foot-10, 190 pounds, is another guy who is looking to re-ignite his NHL career, and the Wings present an opportunity to do so.
