via Kevin Allen of Detroit Hockey Now,
Detroit Red Wings prospect Robert Mastrosimone is having fun in the sun.
The Red Wings 2019 second-round pick (No. 54) transferred from Boston University to Arizona State after last season. He has launched his career as a Sun Devil by leading the school in scoring in the early going. The slippery forward has five goals and seven assists for 12 points in Arizona State’s first 13 games.
An indication of Mastrosimone’s strong start: he leads the team with 57 shots on goal. No one else has more than 39 SOG.
Arizona State can’t match the history of other hockey schools. But they have name recognition. The Sun Devils’ second-leading scorer is Josh Doan, son of retired Arizona Coyotes star Shane Doan. The young Doan is a Coyotes’ prospect. The third-leading scorer is Lukas Sillinger, son of former NHLer Mike Sillinger and the brother of Columbus Blue Jackets player Cole Sillinger. ASU forward Jackson Niedermayer is the son of former NHL standout Scott Niedermayer.
82/ 96 should be the regular 3rd pairing until further notice.
