The Detroit Red Wings experienced a disastrous period in each of their previous three games that contributed to their demise.
On Tuesday, they played one of their better periods this season, against perhaps the best team in the NHL. It didn’t lead to a two-point night, but it provided a blueprint for how they must play more often....
Coach Jeff Blashill said it was a matter of making better decisions with the puck in the second period.
“I thought we played the way we have to play and the way we have played lots of times this year to be successful,” Blashill said. :We had good drive by our middle guy and laid pucks behind them and self-chipped it in when we needed to and made their D turn a bunch. Because of that we created the turnovers in their end. We played a lot more in their end. That’s when the tide turned.”
