Once The Future, Now The Past

from Max Bultman of The Athletic,

With Nyquist’s departure, what was just a few years ago considered the “future core” of the Red Wings is, for all intents and purposes, gone from the current locker room — with very little to show for itself.

The 2013 Grand Rapids Griffins team that won the Calder Cup under Jeff Blashill is now down to just Luke Glendening and Danny DeKeyser in Detroit — and the latter was really only on the team for a handful of games. If the pair ever do contribute to a contender here, it will likely come in supporting roles rather than central ones.

But Nyquist, Tomas Tatar, Riley Sheahan, Petr Mrazek — they’ve all been traded, never putting it together in time to win big with the team that drafted them.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
