Mock Draft Time

03/26/2019 at 11:14am EDT

from Kevin Allen of USA TODAY,

With NHL season winding down, here is USA TODAY Sports’ first mock draft for teams that are in the draft lottery today, sorted by current points-per-game in NHL standings:

1. Colorado Avalanche (from Senators): Center Jack Hughes (USA), 5-10, 170: Hughes will have a Patrick Kane-like impact in the NHL. He's dynamic, fast and creative.

2. Los Angeles Kings: Center/wing Kaapo Kakko (Finland), 6-2, 194: Broke Aleksander Barkov’s record for most goals by NHL draft-eligible player in the Finnish League. He has 22 goals in 45 games for TPS Turku playing against Finland’s pros.

3. Detroit Red Wings: Right wing Vasily Podkolzin (Russia), 6-1, 190: Impressive shot. Sharp passer. Will power his way to the net. Will be a top line performer in the NHL.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
