DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings today acquired left wing Brendan Perlini from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for defenseman Alec Regula.

Perlini, 23, has skated in 200 NHL games since 2016-17, totaling 72 points (45-27-72) and 76 penalty minutes. Originally a first-round pick (12th overall) of the Arizona Coyotes in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, Perlini broke into the NHL with the Coyotes during the 2016-17 campaign and posted a career-best offensive season with 30 points (17-13-30) in his first full season in 2017-18. He split the 2018-19 campaign between the Coyotes and Blackhawks, totaling 21 points (14-7-21) and 28 penalty minutes in 68 games, scoring 12 goals in 46 games after his trade to Chicago. Perlini also logged 17 professional games with the American Hockey League’s Tucson Roadrunners in 2016-17, racking up 19 points (14-5-19) in 17 games and originally made his professional debut by skating in four playoff games for the Portland Pirates in 2014-15.

The 6-foot-3, 211-pound winger spent four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League prior to turning pro in 2016-17. In 217 games between the Barrie Colts and Niagara IceDogs from 2012-16, Perlini notched 188 points (93-95-188) and 94 penalty minutes. The Guildford, England, native represents Canada internationally, winning a bronze medal at the 2014 IIHF World Under-18 Championship and appearing in five games at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship. Perlini has past ties to the state of Michigan and was a teammate of Red Wings center Dylan Larkin with the Belle Tire bantam team that won a national championship in 2010-11.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
