Joe Veleno Would Like To Follow Dylan Larkin's Footsteps

from Ansar Khan of Mlive,

As Joe Veleno prepares to launch his pro career, there is no better role model for him than Dylan Larkin.

“That’s one player that I’d like to get to be one day,” Veleno said. “I think he’s come a long way in terms of being a superstar in this league. He plays the game 200 feet. I’d like to look after him and kind of pick up little things that he does to make me a better hockey player.”

Like Larkin (15th overall in 2014), Veleno (30th in 2018) is a highly skilled, fast-skating center the Detroit Red Wings selected in the first round who is on the fast track to the NHL.

Unlike Larkin, Veleno might need some development time with the Grand Rapids Griffins. But Veleno is showing he is close to being NHL-ready. He excelled in the Prospects Tournament (seven goals, eight points in four games) and will have a few more preseason games to make a case for himself.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
