from Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press,
The Detroit Red Wingsunloaded veteran defenseman Mike Green, creating an opening for a potential look at the top defense prospect in the organization.
General manager Steve Yzerman is also considering deals for forward Andreas Athanasiou and defenseman Trevor Daley
Green, 34, was shipped to the Edmonton Oilers overnight Monday, less than 24 hours before the 3 p.m. Monday deadline. The Wings will receive either a fourth-round pick in the 2020 NHL entry draft, or a third-round pick in 2021 if the Oilers advance to the 2020 conference finals and Green plays in 50% of the games....
Shedding Green facilitates the Wings calling up defenseman Moritz Seider at some point over the remaining 18 games of the season. Seider, 18, has spent his first season of North American hockey with the Grand Rapids Griffins, where the 6-foot-4, 207-pound native of Germany has put up 20 points in 46 games. He projects as a top-pairing blue-liner, and could see his first taste of the NHL this spring.
