Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
The only piece I could find from today is coach Lalonde on Vrana.
via the Detroit Free Press,
I liked Givani. I admit he didnt have a ton to offer, but his name got called throughout the night whenever he played. There are a few guys on the main roster that cant be said for. Sorry to see him go.
from Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press,
Givani Smith's time with the Detroit Red Wings organization has come to an end.
The 2016 second-round pick, once viewed as a possible fourth-line grinder/enforcer, was part of a minor-league trade Monday evening that sent Smith to the Florida Panthers for defenseman Michael Del Zotto. The Wings then traded Del Zotto to the Anaheim Ducks for forward Danny O'Regan, who will report to the Grand Rapids Griffins.
It was only a little more than a year ago that the Wings thought enough of Smith, 24, to include him on the list of protected players during the Seattle Kraken expansion draft.

Good riddance to Smith. He couldn't skate. He was a lousy fighter. And he was so bad defensively he couldn't be used on the PK (which is what 4th-line guys should be used for). Testimony to that is the fact that he was a -21 in 19 games with the Griffins.
The Wings should have kept his brother Gemel when they had him and shipped Givani out at the time. Gemel is a +6 and has 10 goals and 17 assists in 21 games with Syracuse. The Griffins could use him right now.
I didn't hate the guy, but that's a pretty accurate description. I think people were more enamored with what they thought he was than what he actually brought to the ice. Yeah he answered the bell a couple times, but he was in no way a deterrant. Appreciate that he always played with hustle and energy, but he just wasn't good.
So if Holland hadn't tried to extend the playoff streak by one more year the Wings could have had both Chychrun and Hronek.
