from Ansar Khan of Mlive,
The rebuilding Detroit Red Wings will head into a transition phase in goal next season. Jonathan Bernier will maintain the starting job he earned in December and bridge the gap between Jimmy Howard, the franchise’s workhorse for a decade, and the goaltender of the future, whoever that may be....
Who might help in free agency
The Red Wings will be in the market for a veteran free agent goalie to back-up Bernier, either on a one- or two-year deal. Several figure to be available.
Some will either re-sign with their current club, look for a starting opportunity or be out of the Red Wings’ price range (likely under $3 million per season). That group probably includes Braden Holtby (Washington), Robin Lehner (Vegas), Jacob Markstrom (Vancouver), Jaroslav Halak (Boston), Corey Crawford (Chicago) and Anton Khudobin (Dallas).
Goalies who might be a fit for the Red Wings include Cam Talbot (Calgary), Thomas Greiss (Islanders) and Aaron Dell (San Jose).
