from Ansar Khan of Mlive,
Jimmy Howard will appear in his 500th career game tonight for the Detroit Red Wings, and both he and the club hope he has many more in him.
“I just never expected it,” Howard said, prior to facing the Ottawa Senators at Little Caesars Arena (7:30, Fox Sports Detroit). “Growing up, being a kid from a small town (Ogdensburg, N.Y.), always dreamt of playing in the NHL. Didn’t know it was going to become a reality. To play in my 500th game tonight with these guys in this room, with this organization, it’s really special.
“For me personally, it’s just a huge honor. To be able to do it here with my dad and my family, I guess it’s just great timing.”
Howard is 237-166-68 lifetime. He ranks third among Red Wings in games played and wins, behind Terry Sawchuk (734 games, 350 wins) and Chris Osgood (565 games, 317 wins).
