Elliotte Friedman had a Friday morning radio hit on Toronto’s Sportsnet 590.
As part of a larger discussion on goaltending, he introduced Howard into the fold.
“I have to tell you, the goalie market isn’t great this year,” indicated Friedman. “There have been a few teams this year who have been looking for goaltenders. You have to assume Calgary is too, for example, and there’s not a lot out there that people really like in terms of what’s available or what the price will be.
“I think one of the more interesting ones is Jimmy Howard. Detroit is talking about they want a first-round pick for him, but I think he wants to stay. I’m not going to be surprised if at some point Detroit comes to him and says, ‘Okay, we’ll put a two-year offer on the table. What do you think?’
“I think his preference is to stay, although I’m sure if Detroit gets a first-rounder, they’re going to think about it.”
