from Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic,
There’s no question in my mind that CAA Sports will want to introduce Mathew Barzal’s recent’s eight-year extension, paying him $9.15 million a year, into the Dylan Larkin negotiations with the Red Wings. For starters, CAA did the Barzal deal. But I also think they see overlapping numbers and factors between the players. Barzal is a year younger than Larkin and has a higher points-per-game career average, but there are certainly similarities. Having said that, Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman isn’t one to get bullied in contract negotiations. I suspect he has a number in mind for a Larkin extension and has a limit to where he’ll go. It’s worth noting that Larkin’s full no-trade clause kicked in back in July, not that I ever thought the Wings would even entertain moving him this past summer. I think we’ll eventually see an extension done here.
