A2Y- Don't Trade Dylan Larkin

02/12/2023 at 12:02pm EST

from Matt Larkin of The Daily Faceoff,

So, Daily Faceoff Roundtable: which player in the rumor mill do you believe his team would be wrong to trade?

MATT LARKIN: I want the Detroit Red Wings to keep Dylan Larkin regardless of his asking price on an extension. This rebuild is turning into an eternal one – this season will mark Detroit’s seventh straight playoff miss following 25 appearances in a row between 1990-91 and 2015-16. No matter how much you buy into the Yzerplan, this team isn’t as far along in the rebuild as it should be by now. While the Wings have some tremendous players to build around on defense in Moritz Seider and on the wing in Lucas Raymond, center depth is not a strength, no matter how excited you are about Marco Kasper. If you remove Larkin, you lose a captain, a center who can handle two-way matchups and a star who said he wants to remain a Red Wing. It’s time to look forward and not move backward with a sell-off trade in Hockeytown.

from Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News,

The common theme around the Red Wings in recent days has been about the necessity of putting together a win streak and bolstering their playoff positioning.

The Wings are seven points behind Pittsburgh for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, with three teams between them. So the Wings need some good fortune on their side, and hope the teams ahead of them begin to lose games.

But most importantly, the Wings need to win games.

They've won their last two games, including a 5-2 victory Saturday over Vancouver. Now, Detroit is on to a five-game road trip through western Canada, Seattle and ending up in Washington D.C., that'll most likely determine whether this Red Wings roster will stay in the playoff race, or not.

"We're a team, we've talked about where we've been flirting with .500 most of the year," coach Derek Lalonde said. "Weve been unable to put a big streak together. We have to be good every night to win. I understand that's the way we are built, what we are. The top teams in the league can have an off night and win, but that's not who we are.

"This will be a really tough road trip. Good teams, two we just beat."

The more of Larkin I've seen this latter half of the current season, the more valuable he's looked to me. Yes, he's not a number one center on a top tier team, but the wings aren't a top tier team nor do we have a top tier center available to us. Larkin has filled the role of captain well and established himself as the leader of the team.

I would rather have him than not. Honestly, who's our number one center if he's gone? Who's our captain?

rumbear

"This rebuild is turning into an eternal one " I snorted me rum and coke on to the keyboard! Amen brother!!! We are all gonna be in a retirement home before Stevies "done"!

Point 2: Matt Larkin says don't trade Dylan Larkin? Distant cousins? Uncle Mattie? Ima confused....

Point 3: Give him the $8.5 and get over your bad self Stevie. The kid has given his soul to the Red Wings. He suffered thru 20 years of Jeff Blashill and you came in as a ray of hope. Some ray.... Cut the Bullshit and sign him.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
